I’ve played alone and in groups and duos since I was a teenager ( now 74 - not a great musician, I should add). I enjoyed practicing with other people more than playing in front of an audience and I enjoyed busking in the street. I agree with everything you said about playing with other people but playing for myself (or my children or grandchildren, maybe on sufferance) is incredibly joyful. Alone, I get lost in a song just as much as did that 14-year old strumming in the back room , lamenting unrequited love. Then there is my group The Darby Brothers (me, me and me) (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=78Mn8OTLl78&ra=m) if I start to feel too lonely. “Playing” music not working at it.
Thanks for the comment and I am in no way implying that you should never play by yourself. But, as a beginner or early intermediated if you are looking to improve way faster, playing with others will get you those results. I am in fact am going to be doing solo acoustic shows this fall. Thanks.
